Meet Lindsay

Lindsay Stamper, owner of Taking the Lead, is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer with a passion for helping dogs and their owners form lasting bonds. Since 2014, she has trained exotic and domestic animals, beginning her career in zoos and aquariums before transitioning to domestic pets in 2018. Her journey into dog training came naturally, combining her love of animals with her desire to make a meaningful impact on the lives of pet owners in Columbus, OH.

As a small-town girl with a deep connection to animals, Lindsay’s early career as a zookeeper and dolphin trainer was a dream come true. However, she faced a challenge when a scoliosis diagnosis affected her physically demanding work, prompting her to seek a new path. It was during this time that she began working with seeing-eye service dogs, where she discovered her true calling. Watching the remarkable bond between these service dogs and their handlers sparked a desire to help others experience the same connection with their pets.

A pivotal moment in Lindsay's life came when BooBerry, a reactive pit bull from a rescue organization, entered her world. BooBerry’s aggressive behavior toward men had caused her to be overlooked for adoption, but Lindsay saw potential in the misunderstood dog. Through patient, balanced training, BooBerry transformed from a reactive rescue into a calm and confident companion. Inspired by BooBerry's journey, Lindsay adopted her and made her the demo dog for her training sessions, showcasing the power of effective communication.

Motivated by BooBerry’s success, Lindsay established Taking the Lead, where she empowers pet owners with the tools and knowledge to foster strong, harmonious relationships with their dogs. Her approach centers around teamwork between dogs and their owners, ensuring that each client is equipped to address behavioral issues and strengthen their bond with their pet. Today, Lindsay’s mission remains the same: to help dogs and their owners live happier, more fulfilling lives together.
